Chapter (13)
~ Plastic Dolmen
Us stabs the last one through its horrible and large eye hole; like the others, it lets out an awful, deep caterwaul. It’s claws curl back on themselves. After wiping the faun colored blood onto the mauve-ish tuft of grass, Us sits down on one of the waist high blocks — the ones from the exploded tower. Pushing aside the acute mental fatigue and the effects of the pseudo-adrenaline, Us surveys the damage. ______ is dead; the trip to ______ will be undertaken alone.
Us removes the last of the oblong radishes from the waist sack, takes a stiff bite and heads for the rocky outcrop. Us disgustedly kicks a few of the plastic-looking dolmen shapes along the way as a kind-of testament against the creatures.
As Us tops the ridge-line the river can be seen clearly winding back to camp. It now rezzes in that the little toe is broken. Us painfully skips down the back of the spur toward the bank. Stopping occasionally in pain. At these intervals all is quiet except for the croaking lizards who’s forlorn sounds punctuate, at various distances, the dark landscape.
